Is Periscope The Next Social Media Advertising Platform?
Hey everyone,
Today I am going to talk about a new social media app owned by Twitter Inc. called Periscope.
Periscope is similar to Snap chat or the now terminated Vine, as it allows users to broadcasts live videos but these do not disappear or have a 6 seconds time limit on them. As well, while watching streams, you’ll also see people join, leave hearts, comment in real time and more. This app allows you to transport anywhere in the world, catch the latest news, connect with your favourite celebrities or see what your friends are doing. But is this platform a way for you or your company to connect to the target market?
With over 10 million active users, Periscope offers an easy platform to engage current and potential consumers, and allows two way communication with a personal touch. The social media app was launched in March 2015, so it is still a fairly niche platform without much competition to fight for users’ awareness. As well, because Periscope is owned by Twitter Inc., the two social media apps integrate well together. They introduced an autoplay feature on Twitter, so users can watch the live stream without downloading the Periscope app. This connection gives an advantage to Periscope over competitors, such as Facebook Live or Meerkat, as you can leverage the already popular Twitter to increase your live stream viewers and awareness. Many companies have started using Periscope to engage consumers, promote new products, host Q&As and much more. Some examples are Red Bull broadcasting the “Red Bull Guest House” event, their ultra-exclusive party in Miami, Doritos promoting a contest called #DoritosRoulette to draw attention to its new product “Roulette,” and Benefit Cosmetics live streaming tutorials on using makeup and other cosmetic topics.
So if your target audience falls within the general population using Periscope (3 in 4 Periscope users are 16 to 34 years old), this may be the social media platform you have been looking for to engage users, promote products, or increase brand awareness. Give the FREE app a try and see if it is right for you or your company.
Check out live broadcasts through Periscope’s website (https://www.periscope.tv/).
Take Care,
