Reflecting on Web Folio Creation
April 9, 2016
Welcome to my blog! This is my fourth reflection blog detailing my experience through UBC’s English 301 course. For this particular blog, I will be focusing on the creation of my Web folio. It’s crazy to think that this the last project of this course. For this project I decided to modify my existing English 301 webpage: Small Steps Towards Improvement {ENGL 301}.
Comparing to the first time creating my web page and navigating through WordPress, I found modifying my existing blog was pretty easy and quite enjoyable. By the end of the semester, I was already familiar with the tools used to create the web page. Therefore, using the same tools to transform my web page was not too challenging. I decided to go for a more personable and friendly web page so that readers (as well as potential employers) could get a sense of who I was as an individual. I found that I most enjoyed choosing specific pictures that represent me as a person and my interests. For example, my background image is of Aurelia aurita or moon jellies. I have always held an interest for these jellyfish and could watch them at the Vancouver aquarium for what seemed like forever.
I also took the liberty to change the theme of the web page, edit, add and re-order a few pages. I believe that editing after some time has past, help me catch minor grammatical mistakes and omissions. I was also able to rewrite and more clearly express some thoughts. It reinforces the importance of reviewing my work multiple times. Furthermore, aesthetically, I added a few more pictures to each page. I found ensuring that the design and layout were perfect was a complicated process as well. I ended up editing a single page multiple times. However, with time and persistence, I was euphoric with how my web folio turned out (I showed my mom my finished work right away).
In conclusion, creating a web folio was one of my favorite assignments in this course because I got to utilize all the skills I have learned throughout this course. Additionally, I felt that I was able to clearly present myself through this web page. Looking back at my past assignments and my other reflection posts, I can really see how I have improved regarding my skills in technical writing.
