When I teach and advise teacher candidates, I frequently share the child-initiated projects and learning experiences that occurred in my pre-kindergarten classroom. My young students always displayed a keen interest in their local environment which was evident in their paintings, artwork, and play narratives. My teacher candidates are often inspired by these stories and draw on these ideas in their practicum classrooms.
Images of my pre-kindergarten students engaging in artwork, reading, spending time outside, and creating play narratives that often reflected their imagined identities.
Below are images of artwork by Kindergarten children in local classrooms. My teacher candidates introduced their students to these art experiences – all of the images are representative of the students’ outdoor context.
