Industry Rivals, World Allies
PepsiCo and Coca Cola can be seen as one of the most iconic pair of rivals across the globe. From criticized marketing stunts to drink taste, these two giants have been battling for almost 40 years. Yet, recently these two competitors have shown the globe a rare example where close competitors have banded closely together to tackle a a greater problem. A group of companies have together created a campaign to advert the effects of fluorine gasses (found in old refrigeration systems) on the ozone layer.
The teamwork created by these rivals is a testament to the importance of corporate social responsibility and enforcing sustainability in businesses. Linking back to the class lecture about the how the acts of a company affect the values and positioning of a brand. The responsibilities of a company to be sustainable ties back also with the ethics discussion in class, how it is the duty of a company to not only reap profits, but to do so in a way that is respectful to the planet and others. I am so grateful that in a world filled with cutthroat competition, there are still instances of greater good found where least expected.
