My teaching philosophy

What is the ultimate goal of a teacher? I believe the ultimate goal of the teacher is to support each individual student, so they can aimages (4)chieve their personal success. To a student, a teacher is an instructor of knowledge, a parent who cares about them, a console they can talk to, and an advocate who speak on their behalf. This means that being a teacher are far more than just being someone who simply talks in front of the class, and makes sure students are paying attention. I have always been interested in what motivates a person. I believe that everyone no matters their stage of life have aspirations, have desires, and have ideals they want to follow. It is my wish as a teacher to bring out and nurture these aspirations my students may have and turn them into reality. I do not want to simply be a teacher who teaches science.  I want to teach my students to care about themselves and those around them; to strive for constant improvement; to appreciate their own individualism and those found in others; to be open-minded but critical at the same time; to be able to forgive  themselves as well as others, and to know it is ok to fail. Ultimately I want to give them the power to become critical minded, upstanding citizens.

I would describe my style of teaching as a person with a lantern.I imagine myself and students walking on a path in pitch darkness. I will be holding the lantern and each student is given their own flashlight and together we will be on our journey of learning. In our journey, each person will see different things because each person has their own flashlight that will guide them. No flashlight beam will land on the exact same spot throughout the journey. The students are allowed to wander on their own and stray from the path. However, no matter how far they might stray, they can always find their way back to the path because they will always see my lantern from any direction.

I am part of the journey too

How do I go about achieving my goal? It all starts with the teacher, and that is me. The most important part is to be myself. My purpose in life had always been to help others, and there is no greater satisfaction than to help guide the younger generations to become healthy, independent adults. These values I want to pass on to my students are extremely important part of my life and I intend to practice what I will be preaching to my students. I will be the role model for what I am going to teach. I believe the most inspirational leaders are the ones that truly believe in their own convictions and practice them with compassion.
