I exported the emoji story into a PDF with a larger font so it’s easier to read.
- Did you rely more on syllables, words, ideas, or a combination of all of them?
- I found that I was drawn towards images that conveyed specific ideas and meanings. For example, age, gender, occupation, and class have the potential to be woven into the images as a sort of subtext. Because of this subtext, I found that putting words to images was limiting because an image can be interpreted in many different ways – one may not jump to the conclusion that an image is an exact word. However, for obvious key words I used one or two images in an attempt to ground a concept. I also found that using a combination of images with specific ideas or meanings limited the potential interpretation and so I tried to “string” concepts together as you would a sentence.
- Did you start with the title? Why? Why not?
- I started with the title because if you got the title, the rest would fall into place. I think that the title and director are big clues in this situation. I don’t think the story would be easy to guess without knowing the name of the show.
- Did you choose the work based on how easy it would be to visualize?
- I chose the work because it is a very good show and really well written and acted. The more I thought about it, the more I thought it would be a fun challenge to convey with Emojis as the storyline is quite unique and has a few different key concepts that work well visually.
