“Confidence & Humility” by Gary Vaynerchuk

I recently read a post by multimillionaire Gary Vaynerchuk. Mr. Vaynerchuk is an 41-year-old American entrepreneur born in Belarus, four-time New York Times bestselling author, and internet personality with a net worth of $160 million dollars.

In his blog post, Mr. Vaynerchuk talks about his personal “confidence and humility”. He mentions that he is very grateful and states that most of his accomplishments aren’t necessarily just because of his hard work, but they are heavily influenced by his parents and his life experiences and opportunities. On the other hand though he believes that his mistakes are usually 100% his fault. Mr. Vaynerchuk believes that with this “#mindset” people “become fundamentally unbeatable”.

The millionaire also states that even though he appreciates his supporters he believes people are underestimating him, especially since he “hasn’t reached [his] prime” and that he’s “a kid”at 41. The point he is trying to make is that even though he has plenty of successes the world hasn’t ended. There is still time to grow learn and most importantly impact.

With business and especially young entrepreneurs it is important to really focus on what important. We need to thank our supporters and appreciate the opportunities we have been given as well as seize them. Gary makes it very clear that his confidence comes from within. He doesn’t need praise since he doesn’t truly accept it. The way Gary feels he has done what he has sought out to do is by seeing his impact.

As we, Sauder students, move forward into the business it is possible we should adopt some of Mr. Vaynerchuk’s beliefs. He tells us to, “stay grounded in perspective. Never too high, never too low.” and that when it comes to success and accomplishments, “it’s about them when it’s good, and it’s about me when it’s bad”.
We can’t blame others when it comes to developing our own ideas and projects. We need to work and do things the way we want them and can’t complain if something doesn’t come the way we want. Instead of complaining it’s really about how we can keep going and adapting. And once we have achieved what we want we need to accept praise and thank those who helped us get to where we are. And again achieving something once doesn’t mean that’s where it ends. If Gary Vaynerchuk is still growing then why would any of stop?
