Snickers is Number One!

We are right ‘smack’ dab in the center Halloween season. I’ve walked around Vanier and seen people dressed from Teletubbies to the Hulk. Halloween costumes are in big demand and it makes me think about all the different marketing research that must occur for this one bulky profit-making day. Market research must be done from costumes to candy to decorations. Halloween candy trends seem to change and now studies are even done to see which candy is tweeted the most. This year, Snickers was the winner.

In my research, I didn’t find why Snickers was number one, but some other interesting facts. Apparently, Snickers used to be called Marathon in the UK, but after changing the name to Snickers, profits in the UK soared. Mars. who owns Snickers, examined its problem in the UK and successfully fixed it.

Snickers is successful everywhere in the world also because of it’s logo. It is clear and simple and something everyone recognizes. Also, Snickers’ advertising is very well thought-out. The Super Bowl commerical below appeals to young-middle aged football fans, but by bringing in Betty White, also drags in more senior viewers. This makes Snickers look appealing to everyone.
