Educational Philosophy

What does it mean to teachers to develop healthy minds within healthy bodies for our students? I grapple with this question every day. How do I educate and motivate lifelong healthy eating and activity habits in young learners.

The learner is engaged when they have a say in what they are learning and how that learning is demonstrated! Differentiated instruction is about giving students choice in how they answer problems or approach learning.

The learner and the teacher enter into a contract when they agree to be part of a classroom community together. There are certain rights and expectations for each individual. For instance, I have a responsibility to the students to implement effective instruction and assessment practices, and be honest with my dealings with students and colleagues. The students have a responsibility to cooperate as peers and give their best effort.

I have a responsibility to reach all learners and adjust instruction to diverse learning styles and needs. I take great care to support ELL learners, providing a variety of reading and visual materials to further learning, and using graphic and visual organizers to support instruction.

There needs to be joy in the classroom community!
