The business world is often perceived as a cut-throat community that will do what it can to revamp their position. To a degree this perception is true, however when this occurs a serious concern arises that can alter the consumers view of the company. Often times a company’s ethics will become corrupted in order to achieve maximum revenue.

An example of this is FIFA’s recent allegations of bribery and vote buying within the c-suite of their organization. Members within FIFA have been accused of spending $132 million in buying votes and bribing FIFA executives in regards to where the FIFA World Cup will be held. Not only will these allegations cause a major issue for those who were directly involved, but also for the entire company. The ethical controversy that this has brought about will discourage and deter men and women from around the world from associating with FIFA.

Just recently FIFA president Sepp Blatter who many believed to be guilty of association with the scandals has resigned. This in turn will cause a major hit in stocks with any countries associated with Blatter through FIFA. As an Example, Qatar, where the 2022 FIFA World Cup is being held took a $4.5 billion stock hit just a few hours following the resignation of Blatter. Through the actions of FIFA executives one can see the impact and the altercation that an ethical controversy can have on a company.
