Is Saving Worth the Pain?
Ryanair is a European airline company founded in 1985 by philanthropist businessman Tony Ryan, and co-founders Christopher Ryan, and Liam Lonergan. This airline uses a cost leadership strategy through offering prices for flights that first appear to be significantly cheaper than competitors. However, often times when one books a flight with Ryanair they find that the cost of the ticket isn’t the only cost they will have to concern themselves with.
Ryanair is infamous for hidden costs. Regardless, of one’s destination, they will find that with Ryanair they come across numerous costs and inconveniences that the conventional airlines don’t include. These costs are incorporated in many ways that the average traveler wouldn’t even think of. Ryanair only allows one carryon bag on the plane unlike most airlines which allow two, also in order to save in fixed costs, their airports are located outside of the major cities that they fly to thus causing flyers to have to pay to be brought into the city. Also should one desire to print their ticket within the airport they will be charged $85. On top of these, and many more hidden costs, the inflight soliciting of many products is enough to annoy and possibly deter many travellers from using Ryanair.
However unappealing Ryanairs, business model may seem to anyone, it is hard to argue with the potential to save a significant amount on flights. It breaks down to the consumer’s ability to withstand the constant inflight advertisements and to pack and plan in accordance to the cheapest possible flights.
