SUBMISSIONS FOR THE 2019 EDITION OF THE JOURNAL ARE NOW OPEN!

Current undergraduate students at the University of British Columbia are eligible to submit up to two papers until March 10th, 2019 at midnight. Late submissions will not be accepted or reviewed.

PAPER SPECIFICATIONS:

We accept undergraduate research papers from a range of disciplines (e.g. Physics, Astronomy, Political Science, International Relations, EOSC, Sociology, Psychology, Engineering, Commerce), as long as the topic of the paper is sufficiently related to outer space.

All papers must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for publication:

  • Approx. 1500-5000 words in length, excluding bibliography.
  • Must be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
  • Must be the original, previously-unpublished work of the author.
  • Must include citations and a full bibliography.
  • Must include a title, the author’s name, and the course name for which the paper was written.
  • Must have received a grade of 80% or higher if written for an undergraduate course.
  • Please note that we accept a wide variety of undergraduate work, including literature reviews. We understand that there are a limited number of courses on outer space at UBC, and that many science courses do not require students to write a research paper. If you are passionate about outer space but have not written a paper for a specific course, we encourage you to consider submitting a paper written in your own time, or to write a short literature review on an interesting academic article(s) relating to outer space.

HOW TO SUBMIT:

Papers must be emailed in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format to ubcjoss@gmail.com by midnight on March 10th, 2019, with the subject: Firstname Lastname 2019 JOSS Submission. In the body of the email, authors must include their full name, department, year of study, and the course codes of the paper(s) submitted. Submissions that lack this information or are from non-UBC students will be disqualified.

If you have any questions or concerns, please visit our FAQ section, or write an e-mail to ubcjoss@gmail.com

A NOTE TO BUSY STUDENTS:

When in doubt, submit! If your paper meets the basic criteria, it has a good chance of being competitive in the peer-review process.
