English 301 is a class that studies the principles of written and online communications in business and professional contexts. Including but not limited to the practice of; abstracts, proposals, applications, reports, emails, texts, Web Folio and networking. It is a dedicated writing course offered in an online classroom environment. During the course, we will work independently, in consultation with our instructor or collaboratively in writing teams.
The course has these major purposes:
1. to introduce to the distinctive elements of writing in business, professional, and technical contexts;
2. to provide the opportunity to practice and perfect the strategies and techniques particular to writing in these contexts;
3. to engage with classmates in online discussions, peer reviews, and the production and analysis of documents produced for business, professional, and technical contexts;
4. to involve in developing and designing an online Web Folio in two forms: a LinkedIn profile with accompanying references and a professionally designed website that also presents your resume;
5. to encourage and assist in reflecting on your writing and developing self-editing skills.
I expect this course to be a learning curve. I have never been the best at writing but always enjoyed everything related to business therefore I believe this will be a great opportunity to increase my writing skills while doing something I love. I aim to become more comfortable when writing, mainly because I tend to stress a lot and not get my point across. I think that with practice writing can become an enjoyable and valuable task to add to my set of skills.
