Hi everyone! My name is Jon Patry and I reside in the city of Calgary, Alberta. I am currently employed by the Calgary Board of Education as a Grade 4/5 teacher and an in-house Technology Learning Leader. There are many new technology driven projects happening in our elementary school, and the students are becoming savvy digital citizens.
I had two goals for this school year, one being to create a classroom blog (check) and the other is to have each student create their own personal webspace to use as a porfolio (still work to be done). The personal webspace might be a larger wish (with many privacy issues), but one that I am hoping to become a reality!
I am currently working on my Masters of Educational Technology degree via the Univeristy of British Columbia. To date, I have completed 8 courses, currently working on ETEC 565 and registered for ETEC 590 in January. Besides teaching, I enjoy sports (participating and observing), cheering on the local professional teams (Go Flames!), and cooking. Tweeting in the twitter revolution (@jtpatry) has opened many new professional development doors, and have a passion (or quirky obsession) with Star Wars. My plants Gumby and Prickles now have a companion to be aware of, Jedi the cat! (ya I know, a dude with a cat!)
