1 Response to Veneration’s breakdown

What I tried to convey through this picture was both the ambiguity of the graphs and tables themselves, and that of the title.
If the spectator looks at the graphs and tables, he will be able to understand that this is a financial issue, and that (given the expression shown by the individual) something of high importance had just happened. Nevertheless, it is impossible to decipher whether it had a beneficial or detrimental effect because some graphs are sloping upwards, other downwards, and they are hard to read. On top of this, the fact that the individual’s face is not visible in the picture creates even greater ambiguity about the results.
Later on, if the viewer pays attention to the titles “Veneration’s breakdown” which would mean a religious breakdown, creates even greater ambiguity. Is this picture accusing religions to have a stock value? Is he proposing religions to be corporations? this is also backed up by reading the title in the pie graph shown on the second screen (from loft to right) which says: “World’s religions by percentage”.
