{"id":260,"date":"2011-06-01T11:18:26","date_gmt":"2011-06-01T18:18:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jukupedia\/?p=260"},"modified":"2011-06-03T17:35:05","modified_gmt":"2011-06-04T00:35:05","slug":"juku-photograph-i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jukupedia\/2011\/06\/01\/juku-photograph-i\/","title":{"rendered":"Juku Photograph I"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a photo of the classroom in a juku in a relatively wealthy neighbourhood in the southwest of downtown Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jukupedia\/files\/2011\/06\/juku_classroom.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-261 alignnone\" title=\"Juku Classroom\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jukupedia\/files\/2011\/06\/juku_classroom.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jukupedia\/files\/2011\/06\/juku_classroom.gif 700w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jukupedia\/files\/2011\/06\/juku_classroom-300x225.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From my visits to numerous juku around the country, a number of things are typical about this particularly classroom.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing would be the nearly ubiquitous <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jukupedia\/2011\/05\/06\/world-map-in-every-classroom\/\" target=\"_self\">world map<\/a> on the right-hand wall, accompanied of a similar map of Japan in this case.<\/p>\n<p>Nest, this is an example of a juku that occupies space that was intended for some kind of office\/commercial use.
