Google’s new flagship phone, the Nexus 6 by Motorola

I have long been a fan of Google’s Nexus smartphone line because they are affordable and are a decent product. The release of the Nexus 6 this week has got the tech world in a tizzy, though: Google’s newest smartphone is priced at nearly double the previous model, the Nexus 5. A lot of people are upset by the jump in price, and normally I would be too, but I realize now that I’m starting to see things from a more business perspective and I see exactly what Google is doing.

Russell Holly wrote an article for Geek.com that sums up a lot of my ideas. I initially thought his blog post was going to be about how people had previously dismissed any flaws in the Nexus 5 to low cost and then turning around and complaining about how the better-made Nexus 6 cost more, but Holly actually introduced me to new reasons as to why the Nexus 6 was priced so high. It was a refreshing glimpse into Google’s business plan and I feel like I have a lot more insight into the price hike of the phone and the reasons behind it and can justify Google’s motives.
