MarketMix Careers Tradeshow-UBCMA

so I attended this MarketMix event by UBCMA on 6:00-9:00pm, Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010 @Liu Institute for Global Issues at UBC.  I met some frineds, mixed with some industry marketers and had really awesome cake!!~(I really wonder where can I get those cake~tastes so nice~LOL)

About 25 professions came, TAXI branding, Reputation PR firm, Red label communications inc, Motive8Media, Boiling point ad, Costlines creative, Ipsos Reid marketing research, Vision Critical research and so on…

Idea Pitching Vs. Market Research

In marketing, there’s always this two types of jobs: the creative people who generate ideas & put out proposals, and the ones do research on different behaviour patterns, look at datas, and figure out advices. As the Gallup  strength finder test indicates my personal No.1 strength as Ideation, I may more kind on doing marketing jobs on creative stuff.

Big firm Vs. Small group

In the mix, there were professions coming from big ad agencies, and there’s one who runs marketing department of a company on her own. In the future job hunting, there’s always this two choices, the first considered more stable, standardized but hard to get promoted; while the latter represents more responsibility, more stress, more flexibility, and more sense of achievement once one accomplish something. I guess I’ll try both since the big firms may train me well with advanced marketing technique, and small firms may get me a touch of every espect of a firm.

I really like this kind of activities that we can learn about the industry and enjoy some free food!~>_<
