I found this cool makreting blog posting news and commentary on Canada’s marketing and advertising world from the editorial team at Marketing Magazine, Canada’s leading marketing and advertising magazine. Check this out: http://markettingblog.blogspot.com/
One article caught my eyes right away: AR as a service in magazines. It talks about how a German magazine Sueddeutsche Zeitung has added Augmented Reality technology to it’s new issues.
This promotional ad proclaimed that new AR-laden magazines “is dedicated to present its readers with a print media experience never before seen anywhere in this form.” But author thinks that’s not really true.
“The cover of the magazine shows Sandra Maischberger, the well known TV personality, hiding behind her raised hands. When viewed through the smartphone`s camera, however, the popular TV host appears smiling cheerfully at the viewer. Inside is a photo “interview without words” with Lena Meyer-Landrut, who recently won the European Song Contest. When looked at through the smartphone little speech bubbles appear with jibes and comments she couldn`t help making during the shooting…”
The author thinks that “the faster adopters get past the novelty stage of adoption and start treating AR (or whatever new tech is hot this week) as just another arrow in the quiver, the more versatile it will become.”
When Sueddeutshce Zeitung figured out the flashy new AR utility of magazine, there could be more use of the new tech!~Then maybe book, print ads, and more could integrate AR!~ Just imagine reading our Marketing Text book with AR, and words& pictures start moving!!~ Isn’t it far more interesting?! Everything can be more than it seems, and one just can’t wait to discover more about it!!~In terms of Psychological need, just like turning the wants of iphone 4 into a needs, people could be thrilled on new little techs like this~
