Viewing the shift in curriculum as a mindset shift • Changing a curriculum is only one part of changing the way subjects are taught – it also relies on the teacher’s inspiration to teach the new content. • BC’s new curriculum encourages the development of “Big Ideas” as opposed to Prescribed Learning Outcomes • It fosters a growth mindset towards learning, but also relies on teachers embracing a growth mindset. Weaving a Worldview.

Remember…that we are all indigenous to some place.  The word Canada comes from the Iroquois word kanata meaning village, settlement or land. My Inquiry Question: How do we incorporate First Peoples principles of learning in our curriculum while maintaining an inclusive classroom environment? International perspective: A driving force behind the PYP is the philosophy of international mindedness. The IB’s mission statement strives to nurture young people who recognize that they are global citizens and who are motivated to make changes to and in the world. IB Transdisciplinary Skills in Grade 1

Relatively fresh from kindergarten, Grade 1 students have a lot more responsibility and expectations as they continue into their primary education. These new graduates are certainly inquisitive when their school environment fosters exploration. Applying new skills into their learning is essential for their ability to construct meaning of what they are learning.
