Who am I?

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by :). This page was created as a course requirement for my Master’s program, but the page has moved. Here is my new portfolio!

I am Margarita Pacis, or Marga for short. I am studying Education for Sustainability (MEd) at the University of British Columbia (in partnership with CityStudio and the City of Vancouver) and working full time as a Planning Assistant for the City of Vancouver’s Sustainability Group.

Having studied biology during my undergrad, I developed a passion for the natural world. By engaging with my community in Vancouver, it has become apparent to me that there is a gap between the science of sustainability and the public practice of it; we as a whole still demonstrate unsustainable habits that we’re unaware of. This discrepancy compelled me to seek ways to bridge the gaps, and the M.Ed program turned out to be an excellent fit. My passions exist at the intersection of sustainability and community; I aim to make sustainable concepts more accessible to the general public through experiential education and transformative learning. I am interested in learning how our built environment that can adapt to reduce our human impact. My career goal is to continue working in a field that will allow me to co-create a city that can live in tandem with the natural world. I hope to become a placemaker here in the city of Vancouver or one of its surrounding areas, by creating projects that can help us to reach our goal of Greenest City in 2020.  When I am not working with the Sustainability Group or in class, I can often be found outside (climbing, hiking, surfing, cycling, birding, etc.), traveling, making pottery, or reading a good book.
