communication + engagement

City of Vancouver:
As a Planning Assistant with the Sustainability Group, much of my work consists of communicating the City’s initiatives and policies to the general public in an accessible way that promotes dialogue and feedback. I create graphics, slide decks, and social media posts to disseminate knowledge in an aesthetically pleasing way. I also monitor and respond to feedback from residents; listening to the needs of the community is a crucial part of communicating. I created a toolkit of best practices that inform the use of Greenest City social media accounts. In addition, I have planned stakeholder engagement events for areas such as the Vancouver Building By-law updates or corporate carbon incentives. I have facilitated dialogue to collaborate with people from various backgrounds – this often causes positive disruption, but is super important for sustainability.
Rewild Vancouver:
We created a communications plan to ‘rewild’ Vancouver. We first identified a gap or need in the community, then reached out to our stakeholders to inform and consult with them. In order to distribute knowledge about native species, local biodiversity, and habitat fragmentation, we created rewilding kits that residents could take into their own homes (regardless of the type). I designed a brochure that provided information in a simple way. We planned various workshops and events in partnership with the Riley Park Community Garden, Evergreen’s Green Bloc, and the CoV Tree Sale. We ended up distributing over 100 kits, and engaged many residents in the conversation.
