Deerwater Dental Wellness
Deerwater Dental Wellness is a family dental clinic that sees beyond pain & illness. Dr. Isabella Wang and her team of Vancouver dentists are dedicated to restoring your oral health & overall wellness! Dr. Wang suffered from chronic pain caused by her martial arts and sports injuries at a young age. Since childhood, she developed severe osteoarthritis at her knee which ultimately contributed to TMD, chronic headache, and spinal dysfunction symptoms that Dr. Wang had to live with for over 20 years. The long years of chronic pain has shaped Dr. Wang as an avid learner and seeker in finding the most advanced treatment protocols from top specialists in North America. After exhausting all the typical departmental approaches, Dr. Wang fortunately came across a type of advanced regenerative medicine that makes use of platelet-rich plasma and autologous stem cell therapy.
Around the same time, Dr. Wang also learned about the systematic approach to the body’s prioritization and structural compensation – a methodology to prioritize and resolve chronic conditions according to what the body perceives as highest priority. These two discoveries allowed Dr. Wang to receive (and to train in) effective treatments which resolved her chronic pain issues and her osteoarthritis. With first-hand experience of these treatment benefits, Dr. Wang incorporated these methods at her clinic to help patients recover from TMD, chronic pain, and surgical treatments.
Dr. Wang’s Five Phases of Treatment
Phase 1 – General Dental Care
The first phase focuses on prevention and overall bacterial control addressed by general dentistry. Eliminating infection will stop further damage to your teeth, gum and bone, and initiate the healing process. At this stage, we also screen to identify whether the dental disorders you experience are related to any broader health issues such as systemic inflammatory disease, chronic pain, sleep disorder, or cancer.
Phase 2 – Stress & Force Factors
With the active infection under control, we begin assessing the structural strengths and weaknesses in your mouth. You will need a strong foundation for lasting oral health and comfort. Your teeth, jaw bone and joint may be subject to excessive forces that are often overlooked as you become accustomed to everyday eating, chewing, clenching, or grinding.
Some of the symptoms of excessive force in your bite include: teeth hypersensitivity, premature wear down of the enamel, chronic tightness / pain in the jaw, shoulder and neck. Emotional or physical stress such as body pain and strain and breathing / sleeping difficulties can also lead to clenching or bruxism that generates destructive forces in your mouth.
At this stage, we will devise a plan to break the vicious cycle and strengthen your oral structure using the S.O.S. Tx for TMD and Chronic Pain assessment.
Phase 3 – Solid Foundation
If required, in Phase 3, we proceed to enhance the foundation in your mouth before building up on top. The gum, bone and root position will be addressed. These “supporting pillars” of your mouth must be at a sufficient level and in excellent condition because they form the basis of your optimum oral function and overall wellness. At this stage, we ensure there is enough support in your mouth before the next phase.
Phase 4 – Treat The Crown Level
If deemed required, Phase 4 aims to restore the beauty of your smile by optimizing the strength, form and colour of the outer portion of your teeth. The part that you can see and feel.
Phase 5 – Maintain Optimal Function
Phase 5 involves re-evaluations and maintenance of all the work done in other phases. Whether it is bacterial, stress, bite, airway, and/or cosmetic, our goal is to secure the long-term stability of your dental health. Through prevention, education and protection of the treated areas of your mouth, overall wellness can be proactively maintained.
