Best Works

UBC’s English 301 is an intensive writing course that helps students build their technical writing skills through a myriad of assignments such as creating definitions, exchanging peer reviews and preparing professional documents. Below are some of my best works this Winter 2018 semester:

1. Definitions Assignment

Creating a formal definition for a concept is no easy task. In this assignment I define the concept of Feminist Organization Theory (FOT) for a general audience. Balancing reader understanding and the conciseness of the definition was the most difficult aspect of this assignment.

2. Formal Report Proposal

In any organization that works towards a goal it is important to analyze certain inefficiencies that decrease productivity. Identifying these issues in an unbiased way is an important step towards the direction of solving the problem on all angles perceived. In my formal report proposal I identify the struggles of UBC students when finding a house off campus. With a high student body and not enough housing units for every student of campus. It is important the the issue of off campus student housing is emphasized and to bring awareness to the possible solutions to this problem.

3. Complaint Letter

Over the course of a professional career, delivering negative news is bound to happen. In this assignment I practice using appropriate tone and professional terminology when submitting a complaint in the form of a professional letter.

4. Writing With a “You” Attitude

ENGL 301 is a course that relies heavily on peer collaboration and constructive criticism. Giving suggestions and recommendations to university student, Evan Crisp, applied our skills learned from peer reviews by implementing a real-life example to the assignment.
