For Task 4, I tried to spell out the word “crazy” using potato stamps.

Reflection

The most challenging aspect of this process was staying patient while carefully cutting out the letter backwards to create the stamp. It was a bit stressful as it felt like if I made an error, I would become frustrated while trying to start over. It was the same feeling I would get when marking up something with sharpie as I would know that it would be a hassle to fix if I did make a mistake. The actual printing of the potato stamps was also stressful as I was worried that I would make a mistake while printing the letters and then they would not look identical. It took me about an hour and a half to complete this assignment (I really took my time cutting the potatoes… and I already am not very good at cutting potatoes). I think if I was more comfortable and less anxious about making an error, I could have completed the assignment in half the time. Prior to starting the assignment, I assumed that the letters with curves would be a hassle. I was correct as the letters that had curves were a lot more difficult to create compared to the letters that had straight aspects.

This assignment made me feel appreciative of the various ways we have to digitally create and edit text. It allows us to create uniform text that is clear for all to read. To add, it also makes me appreciate it as it allows more people to be creative with their fonts to further express themselves. Most importantly, it allows for text to be created instantaneously compared to the effort it would take otherwise. In short, we really take for-granted how important the mechanization of writing is for society to function efficiently.  Overall, I had a lot of fun with this assignment!
