Object: Amazon Echo Show 5 (Using Alexa)
Technology: Canva – Infographic
Audience: Educators (Elementary/Secondary)
I have chosen to use my Echo Show 5 that I have on my desk in my classroom as my object for this project as I use it many times throughout my day. Specifically, I have chosen to focus on the usage of Alexa. I use it to randomly select students in a fair way to do tasks around the class, remind me when students are leaving early to make sure that they are ready on time, and even to play music. I also have a rule that if a student asks me a question relating to the lesson that I do not know, we ask Alexa so we can all learn together. This rule has also encouraged student engagement as they all often want to stump me with question so we can all ask Alexa.
I decided to try Canva to make an infographic for this assignment as my school recently was given an educational license. I normally use Adobe Photoshop for all my image editing, but I thought that this would be a good opportunity to try something new! For this assignment, I think that Canva was a lot easier to use than Photoshop since the template that I used needed little changes. The template was already formatted in a very clean layout, and it was simple to change the colours to match the Alexa theme. I decided on an infographic as educators could hopefully see the many ways that Alexa could aid in their own classrooms with a quick glance.
If you feel a bit adventurous and want to try to add something new to your classroom, I highly recommend having Alexa as your digital assistant!
