Learning Scenario Analysis

Overview

The specific learning scenario that I plan on analyzing is a project relating to Biomes & Adaptations in the BC Grade 4 Science Curriculum. Students are asked to pick one of the major land biomes and create a digital poster using Canva. Their poster must meet certain criteria relating to textual information and digital imagery. This project does an excellent job in requiring students to find information using digital and physical resources and teaches them how to use the digital tool Canva. This past November was my first time attempting this project with my students, so I believe this would be an excellent opportunity to reflect and analyze the potential successes and shortcomings.

Theoretical Perspectives

I plan on analyzing my learning scenario using the theoretical perspectives of behaviourism, social constructivism, and social cognitive theory.

  • Behaviourism: A gamification approach was used to teach the students how to use Canva using “Kahoot!”.
  • Social Constructivism: The students worked in groups after a brief Canva lesson to explore the program and its functions.
  • Social Cognitive Theory: The students observed the teacher to learn how to use Canva, and then imitated the teacher’s actions as they explored the basics of Canva.
