Obi-Wan Kenobi – Part IV

I attempted this assignment while watching Obi-Wan Kenobi – Part IV. I decided that I would do this assignment while watching the episode to try to cover all aspects of the episode. The first step I took was to give the main characters each their own emoji so that my emoji story would be easy to follow. The emoji used for Obi-Wan was the easiest to pick out as it seemed to fit him perfectly. Princess Leia was also quite easy to pick as the princess emoji fit her perfectly. Reva was easy to select as well since she was the villain, therefore the villain emoji symbolized her well. For Darth Vader, I decided on the snorkeling mask to symbolize his famous breathing noises.

The most difficult emoji to decide on was Tala since she was introduced as a member of the Galactic Empire, however she was actually part of a secret organization who was against the Empire. Since she was always leading Obi-Wan around, I decided to give her the pilot emoji. The outfit of the pilot also matches the Imperial attire so it seemed to work!

The stormtroopers were also fun to express through emojis as I used an emoji of a storm along with an emoji of a man in a white outfit. For them, I used both symbolism and word hints to hopefully get their character across. In order to signify the use of the force compared to lightsabers, I used the magic wand as the force could be seen as magic.

I used an arrow emoji to signify the progression of a scene or idea. As an example, Obi-Wan used the force to cause water to enter a hallway. Next, the water killed the storm troopers who were in the hallway as it caved in due to the pressure of the water.

Once I finished watching the episode and filling the plot with emojis, I moved on to trying to figure out how to represent the title of the show. I was unable to think of an idea for the emojis to use in the title before watching which was my reasoning for doing it last. I heavily relied on symbolism for the title as Obi-Wan Kenobi is not easily broken down into words that have emojis. I first used a TV to symbolize that it was a TV show and then a star emoji and the two swords emoji to signify “Star Wars”. I used a squiggly line emoji to break it up and then the man emoji and a kimono emoji to signify Obi-Wan Kenobi. I relied on the Kimono emoji as it sounds similar to Kenobi and it also represents the Jedi robe which Obi-Wan wears. Finally, I used the # and 4 emoji to share that it was relating to Part IV.

Overall, I heavily relied on the symbolism/ideas of the emojis to convey my story. There were not many emojis that directly linked to the plot of the episode which made it a bit challenging. I recognized before starting this assignment that Obi-Wan Kenobi would be a difficult choice, but I was up to the challenge and was also happy to use it as an excuse to marathon through all the episodes!
