I try to remember to use my delicious account…really, I do! I see the value in it, find it’s an easy-to-adopt tool, and yet I always forget about it. That my computers and iPhone all sync my bookmarks might explain it somewhat.
Can you tell me what you like about delicious, what you get out of it, what its limitaitons are–for you? This is a collegial request, not a “prof telling you to do something” one…
I love that I can bookmark any site that I come across quickly and have it accessible to me anywhere and anytime. I am always using my bookmarks for videos, blogs and websites. In my line of work, I am always interrupted so bookmarks become crucial for me to get back to something.
I do use the social bookmarking features of delicious. I check out how others describe a site and often see what else they have bookmarked.
As a teacher, I use it to point my students to resources. If I get an HTML question, I tell my students to go to my delicious account and use the tags html and tutorials. The students get a list of several sites that I think are good to use. They choose what they want to use. I guide them to the resources and they make the decision what to use. If they don’t like one resource, they can try another.
I also get the students to create their own accounts and bookmark the resources. That way they can go back to resources easily when working on a project. This tends to eliminate the “what was that link you gave us?” They often just save my resources to their own bookmarks within delicious.
I have experienced students coming back to me after a course and ask for links to the resources. I use to have the links within the LMS but now that I have them outside the LMS, I can still share.
