The consumer launch of Google Glass will not be happening this year. One of the primary reasons is that the developers of its apps are abandoning it. Out of a survey of 16 developrer contracted by Reuters, 9 of them have stopped working on their original project or even abandoned it completely. The main reason for abandonment is due to the lack of customers or the limitations of Google Glass. Some of them even switched to developing for businesses exclusively rather than for consumers. Although facts are looking grim for the development processes, Google has kept its word about being enthusiastic for the overall project.
Google Glass has been a hyped consumer good for a long time. Many people including myself think that with these glasses, the world of E-marketing will be changed again. Just like smart phones and app advertisement. There will be many opportunities for marketers to extend their reach to a new platform such as Google Glass. Many social media and apps will be made exclusive to this new product and there might be introductions to a new type of advertising. Overall this delay has been disappointing but the directional change of Google Glass to more business orientated could be better for us. What do you think?
