Autobiography

My name is Jan-Lin and I am an aspiring teacher in the Bachelor of Education program at UBC. I was born and raised in Vancouver.

Academics has always been an important part of my life. My parents always taught me to strive for the best no matter what I set my hand to, be it school, piano or swimming. However, grades always took priority, and if I struggled, my parents were there to help me, and if they didn’t know how to  help me, I received help from tutors. As I grew older, I recognized the importance of investing in not only academics but in people. Time on earth is short – too short to waste on myself and achieving glory or fame for myself. It would be a tragedy to spend my life on myself and not helping others.

No matter what our profession is, we are always teaching others, whether directly or indirectly. I truly believe that the best teachers are the best students. I hope to be humble, open, and willing to learn as I journey through life as an educator.
