– Standard media embed player
– Download media player – A player with a ‘download’ button for media owners who wish to allow others directly download the media.
– Standard media embed player WITH transcript widget– users can now embedded media with captions and display the transcript beneath the player

Upcoming Changes:
2.Kaltura Analytics – Re-displaying the users name and hiding the export and csv download buttons
UPDATE: Analytics change completed on Tuesday, May 18th

We have been working with Kaltura to deploy a fix that will allow the removal of the anonymization modification (which was implemented during last Summer’s upgrade as it displayed private information in a number of locations). We are waiting on Kaltura to implement the final piece before removing the anonymization modification. While this will undoubtedly provide instructors with much needed data, it will also mean we must restrict student access to some data .

*Please see changes below:

1. Removing Anonymized User ID – Fix will display User’s First & Last Name
o First and Last names will now appear in place of the obfuscated userID

2. The student role has been restricted from the features below:

Kaltura Analytics Dashboard Export & Video Quiz Users CSV Download/Printer Friendly Results
o Dashboard Data Export: The ‘Export’ button can be found within the Media Gallery analytics dashboard or on individual media entry analytics. One of the selectable options: ‘User Engagement’ from the ‘Export’ dropdown menu exposes users’ private information in the resulting CSV file.
o Video Quiz Users CSV Download: The data contained in the CSV download for Video Quiz users contains private information. Access to this download button has been restricted to instructors and admin staff only (May 7th, 2021).

In consultation with UBC’s privacy office it was determined that restricting access to the ‘Export’ and CSV download functionality by role was an acceptable approach with the addition of the following communication.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Any personal information downloaded should be DELETED as soon as it is no longer required for academic purposes.

If further information is required, please contact us at the LT-Hub.

Kaltura is now available in Canvas Catalog – Friday, November 20/20

– It is a stand alone instance (i.e. media in “My Media” through canvas.ubc.ca is not available in Canvas Catalog).
