Subject: Best Practices for Networking on LinkedIn

LinkedIn has become an important part of marketing in recent years. In order to keep up with trends and appear as best as possible to potential employers, here are 10 tips for networking on LinkedIn.

  1. Use a clean, professional profile photo.
    • Your display picture is one of the first things people look at when they see your LinkedIn profile, so it is important to look approachable. The photo should be taken straight on, with business casual attire. (Meero)
  1. Optimize your home feed.
    • Optimizing your home feed will help you to streamline your network to curate your feed to your own personal interests.
  1. Use keywords.
    • SEO, or search engine optimization, is a tool often used by companies to get their media pushed more by the algorithm. By using keywords as an individual, your profile will be recommended more to others.
  1. Add a memorable headline.
    • A headline is more than just your job title! Be specific and highlight the skills you wish to be known for (The Muse).
  1. Include a current job entry, even when unemployed.
    • Add the position you are looking for and indicate that you are open to work.
  1. Complete more information where applicable.
    • Include your name pronunciation, location, industry, and contact information.
  1. Add Links.
    • Showcase other media on your profile as well to show other things you have to offer. This can be links to your website, portfolio, or any other relevant media.
  1. Add skills to show potential hires what your capabilities are.
  2. Be active!
    • Keep your followers updated but focus on quality and not quantity.
  3. Join groups!
    • Proactively involve yourself with others to bond on similar interests. You can find individuals to collaborate on projects, as well as potential employers.
