Apple held its press conference on September 12 at 10 am in 2017 and there were 5 new products being introduced to the public, the iPhone x, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 plus, apple watch series 3 and Apple TV. IPhone X, as the newest and most upgraded cell phone, undoubtedly became the most eye-catching product.

The article suggested a bleak turnout at the Apple store in Sydney, Australia and this problem can be analyzed through the process of asking five Whys, the central question to ask when building a fishbone diagram.

The first “Why” is because most people are saving their money and waiting for the finer iPhone x to come out. With the launching of two different cell phones, Apple should already predicted this direct drop of buyers because the new iPhone x, which will be launched in November, is more innovative and expensive at the same time. Most people are attracted to the newer iPhone as it has better advancements like the new “Face ID” replacing “Touch ID” and larger screen without home button, which is referred as “the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone” by Tim Cook. These improvements not only demonstrated iPhone x’s superior improvements comparing to iPhone 8 but also act as a rationalization for the phone’s price of $999. The reason why people are stillwaiting with this immensely high price is because it’s a human nature to pursuit something more advanced with higher quality. “The iPhone 8 will only cater to those who want a new version but do not want to pay a hefty $999 for the iPhone X, said iTWire.com’s technology editor Alex Zaharov-Reutt

Most people now often consider cell phone as a property to flaunt about their wealth instead of a tool used mainly to communicate. Therefore, it’s understandable that most people would rather spend more money on the newer and higher priced invention instead of the one with less new features. A great satisfaction of vanity can be achieved as they walk around with their newest edition iPhone.

As a result to the public’s eagerness to fulfill its vanity, there is an unsurprising bleak turnout at the Apple store in Sydney. A significant drop of customers for iPhone 8 is shown but the turnout for iPhone x launch should be drastically different since it is the main reason why people are not buying iPhone 8.
