In Zhexin Zhang’s blog(https://blogs.ubc.ca/zhexinzhang/2014/10/29/personal-blog-7/),she discussed whether it is worth or not to buy the new Ipad mini 3 for paying  $100 higher than Ipad mini2. She argued that Apple did not perform well on prodcut differentiation to make each of it products incomparable.

Unlike Iphone can not be substituted by other products, Ipad, Mac pro and Mac air are sort of identical because the status for each of these are not as clear as Iphone. In conclusion, she posted that she prefer to buy an Ipad mini2 instead of a new Ipad mini3,because the slight change and the extra Touch-ID fingerprint scanner do not deserve to pay $100.

In my opinion, I agree that it is not that economically to buy Ipad mini 3. The material used for Ipad mini 2 and 3 are basically the same and they all come with a Retina screen. That most people buy Ipad mini is because it can substitute the computers and easily to be carried. In this way, the extra fingerprint is less attractive than improving the screen or some functional changes. In my opinion, Apple indeed need to clarify its products’ positioning. It needs to avoid  the same situation where ipod met before due to each product lacking of it own shining point and its unclear positioning.
