Hello, my name is Kayla, I am a graduate from the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) dental hygiene degree program (DHDP) class of 2019.
Welcome to my portfolio, showcasing my goals for professional development, practice philosophy, role as a primary health care provider, and self-reflections aligned with the dental hygiene competencies. I have highlighted my experiences in clinical and community settings, inter-professional education activities, and assignments which have paved my professional path.
My journey as an oral health care provider started as a certified dental assistant (CDA/RDA II) in private practice, where my passion for oral health, rapport building, and being part of a dental team began. Since then, I have grown to appreciate the encompassing position dental hygienist’s have as primary health care providers and the various opportunities for dental hygienists outside of clinical settings. As the reader explores my portfolio, I want to share how professional practice, developing individualized care plans, and working with diverse populations and health care teams have shaped myself as a multidisciplinary focused dental hygienist and primary health care provider.
