My goals for this course:
- To decide upon a topic to teach in the course that I am designing — this could be the most challenging goal!
- To explore the various platforms that are available when designing online courses.
- To develop a deeper level of understanding of the various skills, tasks, design techniques, and multimedia tools used to design an online course.
- To establish a collaborative and supportive online community where learners become contributors willing to ask questions and take risks.
- To delve into what it takes to create an online course and to discover the opportunities that the new knowledge might bring.
I didn’t know what to expect in the MET program when I enrolled, as online learning was a new and unknown world to me. Even though I have been an educator for nearly 20 years in both Elementary and Secondary, I have never taken the opportunity to teach nor participate in an online course. However, I have had experience as a parent of a child enrolled in online courses, and realize the importance of: presenting the content in a motivating manner, providing opportunity for learners to build connections with others, and making the learning relevant to the learner. I look forward to the various challenges this course might bring, as well as learning the various tools that will equip me to be a successful online course designer/instructor.
