Blog Post #6 – Response to Liam Larson CVS Remark
Liam contests in his blog post that CVS’ move to remove cigarettes from the shelves of their store is a large publicity stunt to “gain more press coverage” and target a “new demographic of socially responsible shoppers”. I wholeheartedly agree with the claim he made that this whole movement was a publicity stunt. As a drug store primarily it would go against the mission statement of CVS to provide a material that clearly provides an unhealthy effect on individuals who consume cigarettes. I find this more of a move to please CVS’ current customer segment while possibly attracting new individuals rather than attempt to solely garner more publicity for CVS. It must be noted that society tends to give large businesses large amounts of criticism for failing to be socially responsible and therefore when a firm does make a move towards social responsibility they should be commended as well rather than harassed about their real motives.
