The task for the final project was to research a particular development in technologies for writing and reading and the implications it had on literacy and education. I am aware that various typographical choices can affect how one perceives the material they are reading. A colleague often has his students rate the difficulty of a recipe. He hands out a variety of formats, altering line spacing, font size, font style (specifically, italicizing one version). There is consistently a difference in difficulty rating depending on the typography of the recipe. This has raised a curiosity about whether just the choice of font has an impact on how one processes the content, which led me to this. There is so much information available on the topic, so this is a very light look at the information that exists.
