Made in Canada Epidemic

In this article two asbestos mines in quebec was shut down. For 130 years Quebec’s mines has turned out Canada’s so called “Magic Mineral”, asbestos which causes lung disease and cancer. The news came as relatives of those who died from asbestos exposure spoke to the press which caused the mining company halt for good.
Both of “Heidi von palleske’s parents died from the asbestos related diseases” said the reporters. Four days before “her parents” died, she recorded a plea asking exportations of asbestos to third world countries to be stopped because “nobody should die the way “her parents” was dying” Regardless, the industry continued the process of mining abestos. Now Canada is stuck with a dilemma as Canada is one of the largest producers and exporters of asbestos in the word.

Production has halted at the Jeffrey asbestos mine, shown on Oct. 7, but supporters say it's too early to write the industry off yet. Production has halted at the Jeffrey asbestos mine, shown on Oct. 7,

Re:Kindle Fire to Pass Over iPad? + Solutions for Apple

After reading Janice’s Blog about Kindle fire vs Ipad 2 I quickly compared the ipad 2 that i have and my floormates Kindle Fire he got at the states! It is definate that Ipad 2 has better appearance with its slim body and color, however that is basicly the only thing that makes a difference. In site shows a detailed comparison between Amazon Kindle Fire vs Apple Ipad 2. While Kindle Fire costs max of two hundred dollers, Ipad 2 costs eight hundred twentynine dollers which is obviously one of the main reasons why (stated in janice’s blog) “51 percent [of the American households] prefer kindle fire over the Ipad” Moreover, now that Apple has a new competitor catching its tail (if not already done so) Apple will continue to produce a better version of Ipad 2 … Ipad3! It is stated in this site that Ipad 3 may have a improved screen with resolution up to 2048X1536 pixels!

Tim Hortons in Afghanistan

In the article, CEO of Tim Hortons Paul House stated that” It has been an absolute privilege and honour for Tim Hortons to be associated with the military and bring a little taste of home to the brave Canadian soldiers serving overseas.” Now that the troops are slowly being withdrawn, quoted from the article Tim Horton has “run its course”. Tim Hortons have served 2.5 million customers for 5 years located in Kandahar, Afghanistan. I remember in class that Tim Hortons were expanding into other countries but truthfully i did not expect Afghanistan to be one of them. I can not stop myself but question how well did the business go? In the article it says ” Since then, 230 Canadians have been employed at the store, which has served customers from 37 different nations”. Not only that but”
most of the location’s proceeds went to military community and family support programs because the company waived all fees and operating costs typically associated with a franchise”

Re:Advertisements Revolutionized

After reading Vivans Post i felt nostalgic as i went to Korea this summer and found a lot of advanced technology like the QR code she was talking about I was searching through my dads wallet and found a blank business card with QR code. I asked my dad and he showed me by scanning the QR Code with his phone and all the information about him poped up just like a business card!

As i traveled around i knoticed that not only QR codes were used for business cards but a form of advertisement as well. This surprise
led me to wonder just how far technology had come. Unfortuneately, I found that people
in korea are very impatient and wants answers instantly without having to take out the phone to scan the QR Code.  This leaves me to wonder what will be our next QR Code?

We Spill Once Again …

Oil spills occur very frequently and cause enormous ecological harm. It is “estimated that approximately 706 million gallons of waste oil enter the ocean every year”(1) On Oct 10th, oil began to wash up on the beach in New Zealand five days after the crash of the container ship Rena. As the ship hit the reef near the Bay of Plenty, “350 tons of oil spilled from the ship” (2) and approximately 1700 tones still left on board ready to spill once again. It is stated in the article that “They`re lucky they had [good weather for] five days” as the ship is hanging by the thread hoping for the weather to stay steady. The cost to clean
the oil is not calculated yet.

However, wouldn’t it be better if we invest in our money to make the ship stronger? What can we do to prevent this tragic event from happening again?

It is devastating how Steve Jobs, Apple`s CEO has passed away at age 56 “fighting a well-publicized battle against pancreatic cancer since 2004”.
