Blog 3: Breast Cancer (Weeks 3 & 4)

From the information I have read from Komen’s website, I have acquired a deeper understanding about the worldwide second-most common cancer among women, which is the breast cancer. One of the most crucial massages that the Komen website delivers to the audience is that having a diagnosis of breast cancer is not necessarily the end, as there are ways to treat breast cancer. It is also important for every women to understand the risk of developing breast cancer, in which the website has indicated a breast cancer risk assessment tool, in order to calculates a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer within her lifetime. The elements in the assessment tool are age, age at first period, age at the time of the first child, and family history of breast cancer etc… Moreover, the Komen has done a number of researches in regards to finding the best weapon to fight against breast cancer. Furthermore, they do a lot of cancer education, programs, and screening in different communities acorss the United States of America. Their goal is to approach the community in order to reduce the breast cancer mortality in different communities in the US.

For the website of Breast Cancer Action, on the other hand, I have learnt that their mission is to achieve health justice for all women at risk of as well as living with breast cancer. This organization believes that health justice as human right, and it is significant to honor women’s diverse voices. I have found that their vision is very influential and it will cause a big impact in the world, as their vision is to form a world where lives and communities aren’t threatened by breast cancer. The organization obtains this goal by providing education, and takes action for systemic change of breast cancer screening as well as treatment.

Thus, both of these organizations need donation from the public, and it is beneficial not only to the patients of breast cancer, but also to creating a better world, if more individuals can donate to these organizations.

When you are ill…

Sometimes when you are ill, you might think that it is other people who passes the disease to you. However, have you ever think that on a regular daily routine, are you doing a good job to strengthen your health, in order not to get sick. I can still vividly remember that three years ago, I have a relative passed away because of cancer. That relative was only at the age of 62 when he left our family. He was a kind of person who did not care of his diet, and he did not do any kind of exercise on a regular routine. He enjoys drinking beer and eating junk food. Our family and the family doctor had already reminded him many times, however he never took action to change. After he passed away, I questioned myself, is it always “not too late” to take action? If one is answering in regards to health issue, the answer is no. Because our health is correlated with time, and time is passing away very quickly. It is critical that we treasure our body and health when we still have time. Therefore, whenever others are ill, I tell them to get recover soon, and after recovering, they have to start building up a healthy life routine, in order to fight for the future possible illness that might come.

When I am ill…

Even though I try my very best to avoid it from happening, but I will still get ill occasionally, and it is unavoidable. For a full-time university student and a part-time sales person like me, it is already not an easy task to balance the use of time between academic and work. Therefore, whenever I get sick, it makes me even harder to handle all of my works and stress at once. Since my working efficiency will decrease when I am sick. One of the very crucial elements in order to make myself recover faster is that I will drink a lot of water and try to get as much sleep and rest as possible. It is the quickest way that leads me to recover faster. Moreover, as I am getting older, I am now more aware of my health issue. For instance, I will now do sports more regularly, do a full body check annually, and watch over what food I am eating. I believe that in order to stay healthy, it is important to have a balanced diet and have regular exercises. I understand the old saying that “when you have a healthy body, you can do everything you want.” It is critical that I understand the key of keeping myself healthy at an early age, so that I can avoid as much as possible of the probability of getting ill in the coming future. Thus, I believe in a balanced and healthy diet and regulations rather than the utilization of drugs.
