For this assignment we were to construct the basic framework for our online course through one of the recommended LMS. I chose to use a combination of WordPress and Edmodo. I found WordPress to be fairly intuitive and easy to use though I did feel restricted by using the UBC platform for this. I felt that if I had used the full version of WordPress that I would have been able to do more of the things I had originally envisioned doing, such as forums, because of the ability to use different plug-ins and features. However, I was still happy overall with how this portion of the course turned out. Constructing the WordPress site, really made me think about the different components of my course, the pedagogical structure, and the learning objectives. As I had previously taught the course that I was making the LMS for, I found this task to be fairly reflective. It made me strongly consider why I was teaching the units that I was and what I truly wanted students to get out of each unit. Developing the learning objectives, also helped me to articulate what I was envisioning for each unit and I found the feedback from my peers to be particularly helpful in finalizing and shaping these objectives.
With respect to using Edmodo as part of the course, I feel at this stage as if I have just began to scratch the surface of what is possible with the platform. I did not get overly in depth with the functionality of Edmodo as I was just focused on setting up the basics for the course. I am looking forward to working with this program in more depth for future assignments.
