For this assignment, I was working on adding content to my LMS to develop a unit of study that could be delivered fully online. I was able to combine using both platforms that the course was originally created with in the development of the unit. The WordPress portion was used for creating the content that is to be delivered to the students, the assignment outlines, and the overall learning plan for that unit. The Edmodo portion was used to create discussion forums, quizzes, and hand-in folders for assignments. Through creating this unit I was able to discover new features within Edmodo that I had not previously known about. The quiz creator in Edmodo was easy and intuitive to use, though it was limited in the types of questions that could be asked and the settings for delivering the quiz. Based on this, I decided to use the quiz as a form of assessment for learning that students can use to evaluate their own progress with the unit. Creating forums in Edmodo also made sense over attempting to use WordPress for that portion, as Edmodo will help to protect the privacy of the students.
The big undertaking for this unit was developing the screen capture videos that are used to deliver the lessons on the WordPress site. For this, I used the screen capture software, Camtasia. There was a bit of a learning curve at first with this program and I still feel as if there are many useful features that I have not yet discovered. Overall, I thought that Camtasia was a great resource to use for creating these videos. It allowed me to easily highlight different portions of my screen to make it easier for students to follow what I was doing. The editing of the videos was not overly challenging compared to other programs that I have used. I would recommend using Camtasia for anyone that wants to do basic screen capture projects.
