My name is Kayla and I am a student at the University of British Columbia.

I was born and raised in a city just north of Seattle, Washington, a few hours away from where I live now. I consider myself extremely lucky to call the beautiful Pacific Northwest my home.

My main interests are music, photography, and filmmaking. When I am not busy creating or studying, I am usually out, exploring. I enjoy traveling to new places, experiencing different cultures firsthand and learning new things.

I am currently in my first year at UBC. I am an arts student planning to major in Speech Sciences and graduate in 2020. In the future, I hope to become a speech pathologist.

I was drawn to Indigenous Studies when choosing my courses because at the time, I did not have much exposure to the topics of this class. I felt that it was necessary to become more well-informed about Indigenous Peoples and the issues they have faced in the past as well as the ones that they continue to face today in order to help make a difference. The course has, in many ways, opened my eyes and my mind and for that, I am extremely grateful.
