Murawski, W. W. & Wilshinsky, N. (2005) Teaching Self-Determination to Early Elementary Students: Six-Year-Olds at the Wheel. TEACHING Exceptional Children Plus, 1(5) Article 3. Retrieved from http://escholarship.bc.edu/education/tecplus/vol1/iss5/3

This article was very easy to understand and provided concrete, practical examples of how self-awareness can be taught in a primary class. Self-awareness can be a complicated topic to breach with children but Murawski and Wilshinsky were able to explain it using vocabulary a young would easily understand

I really liked the model of a car used in this article. With a grade six late French immersion class, I have concerns that the language need to explain what I am going to teach them may hinder understanding but this metaphor would help a great deal because it was used for a Grade One class, which is fairly close to where my student will be in terms of vocabulary. It also provided worksheets and metaphors with explanations for the students of how the car metaphor relates to self-awareness, which would help me a great deal if I decide to implement a part of this program.
