This article provided some context for me about self-evaluation and its effectiveness for students. Olina and Sullivan concluded that students self-evaluated much higher than a teacher would. In order for them to be more self-aware, I feel that they need to know how well they think their work is versus the thoughts of an evaluator like a teacher. As with many classrooms, my students are used to only being evaluated by a teacher so I think it would be necessary and helpful if I showed them how they evaluate their work and then have them see how a teacher evaluates it as well. I think this will be beneficial for them and will help my students be more self-aware before even starting to teach strategies.
