This resource was useful as it denoted the three forms of assessment, FOR, AS and OF learning.
As a teacher candidate, the differences between the three were clear to me so this helped me find more information on metacognition and its application in the classroom. Though it did not give me any specific examples of activities or lessons to try in my classroom, I think the ideas behind it are strong and clear. The following is a short summary of what I found to be interesting, focusing specifically on assessment AS learning.
What is the teacher’s role in assessment as learning?
The teacher
Why should we give feedback?
Give students lots of feedback but be specific so they can understand what is expected of them. They will focus on doing their work (process) instead of just getting the right answer (end product) which in turn brings them deeper into their learning and into that metacognitive state. Feedback from peers, family and the community are just as important as feedback from teachers.
