Grade 6 Science

In Science, I will have my students write a reflective journal after each lesson during the extreme environments unit in Science, with their final assignment to write a summative journal entry describing their ideal extreme environment that includes reflections on all topics in the unit.
The journals will consist of T-charts on each page. The left side of the chart will be what they already know or what they think they know and which of the extreme environments they would like to live in based on the topic of the lesson (eg: pressure and oxygen). After the lesson, they will fill in the right side with what they learned/ their corrections to their left side and, if they want, one thing they wonder about the topic.
My reasoning for doing this kind of assessment is because I want to see where their learning came from and where it ended up. In researching metacognition, I think this will be an engaging and interesting way for them to see how far they have come as well.
