Weekly Friday Journals

My students will continue to write in a take-home Friday journal and reflect on the concepts they learned each week, which will hopefully provide some feedback to me, as an educator, as to how much they are retaining and where they may need help. These journals will also be useful for the students, as they reflect and think about their learning, and their parents/ guardians, because then they know what and how their child is learning and how they can support him/ her outside of the classroom.

As previously mentioned, I think it would be pertinent that the parents and/ or guardians know what I am teaching as well. Even though I want my students to take more of the responsibility when it come to their own learning, learning does not stop once students leave the classroom; having the parents/ guardians aware of the self-evaluation strategies could benefit the students because they could help the student practice the strategies at home, say when they are doing homework, or maybe even in other aspects of life, such as sports (in my class, most of the students play at least one sport so I do not think applying these strategies here would be a stretch at all). With that said, I am in the midst of constructing a list of good questions to ask students to get them talking about school for whenever parents/ guardians get the chance to talk to their child(ren).
