What’s that weird blue stuff?

Alas!

A tampon commercial that knows what’s up (no pun intended)!  The first time I saw this ad on TV I felt oddly liberated.  Finally, an ad that demonstrates tampons realistically, as opposed to the fruity corporate attempt to candy-coat a woman’s least favourite time of the month.  The more I think about it I wonder who Kotex’s competitors, such as Tampax or Playtex, are targeting their ads towards. Pre-pubescent girls are really the only age group who I think would possibly fall for these candy-coated commercials because they have yet to experience the wonders of Mother Nature.  However, as soon as the storm hits, the fantasies over, and reality sets in.

Kotex’s clever campaign to “Break the Cycle” targets the consumers that actually use their products!  Their ads don’t shy away from the topic; instead, they poke fun at the ridiculous taboo that a woman’s period has become in the advertising of their competitors.

“Break the Cycle” is sure to win over a new generation of tampon wearing teenage girls but I’m not so sure of the affect it will have on the already converted.  By that I mean brand loyalty. As much as I love Kotex’s commercials, I am less a fan of the actual product they produce and will therefore always be an advocate for Playtex.

Oh, and I love the second video because I have defiantly made both my brother and my dad both buy me tampons before!
